Asian Art Museum

Overview

The goal of this project was to tell people a story and identity of the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco. I experimented with geometric typefaces and patterns for rebranding the museum. Being that most visitors are elderly travelers and young school students on a field trip, the museum’s modern exhibitions attract people of all ages which further demonstrates their mission to “connect the past, present, and the future.” With this in mind, I wanted to create a more friendly and playful rebrand so anyone could come by after work or over the weekend casually and delighted. My design tells a story about diversity and inclusion.

Bojagi

Wrap your good luck!

Bojagi is a traditional Korean wrapping cloth that people believe keeps good luck. I got inspired by the diverse patterns and colors.

Things are connected but disconnected.

The national flags of the 48 countries in Asia inspired me to create a pattern of diversity.

The high contrast colors create a vibrant look while implying connection and inclusion with harmonized patterns.

Reflection

“Designers should be able to work within the time constraint and make the best decision. Design practice with the constraints makes you more creative because your design thinking muscle is growing. Keep doing it but set an alarm!”
